How To Solve The Pressure Loss Caused By Small Plumbing Leak? -HYDROBOX 900

Non-stop or frequent pump start/stop due to a small amount of leakage or small tap flow is one of the most frequent problems in household water booster systems.

Here is a feedback given by our customer. He used HYDROBOX 900 to increase water pressure for his 4-family house. But the pressure keep losing due to the plumbing leak. He then reset the water pump pressure which optimized the adjustment function to fit his usage environment. In a way, it not only improved the frequent start and stop of the water pump, but also achieved the balance between energy saving and usage requirements. Below is the original case description.

“just for update of the Hydrobox, still working fine, but needed per day around 2.5kw, that’s in a month 75kw, a big amount because it started and running a lot to keep up the 3 bar pressure. Because in a 4 family house, it is seldom at 100% seal and now leaks. Even very small leak you cannot recognize, but the pumps computer can. What I now did is lowered the pressure to 2.3bar and because my system is running on tank and municipality water, which is mostly in the moment around 1.7 bar to 1.8bar. The pump starts only when somebody open a faucet because only then it reaches the starting pressure. So the electricity used went really down and a constant pressure of 2.3bar/34psi is also enough.

Maybe that’s also a good tip for other of your customers to connect both tank and municipality water and lower a bit the pressure than the pump is really working better and only starting when necessary when water is used and not when only start because of pressure loss in the system.”

A correct working pressure will be energy saving for the whole house. So make sure that you have the correct working pressure and it is especially important before you set other data.

During practical cases, there are many occasions when there is small leak that cannot be found and detected easily. This might lead to pump start and stop without water and finally get broken.

It is lucky that HYDROBOX 900 allows parameter setting to solve the leakage problem. As long as the starting pressure is slightly higher than the inlet pressure, the pump will then start only when the faucet is opening and not when there is pressure loss. Here is the tips to follow: As the inlet pressure is fixed (depends on different water sources), make sure the starting pressure is slightly higher than the inlet pressure.

For example, if your inlet pressure is 2.3bar. The starting pressure has to be lower than (3bar -F001), which means the value of F001 should be set lower than 0.7bar. In this way, it will solve the mentioned problem above.
